Thank you Brentwood!
Together we collected and sorted 10,300+ books
at the BookEnds Brentwood Community BookDrive

On May 20th, from 10 am to 2 pm, we celebrated, sorted books, jumped in a bouncy, and had fun!  Now students all over the Greater Los Angeles area will have vital literacy resources they need to learn to read!

What is the Brentwood Community BookDrive?

During the month of May, led by BookEnds, the Brentwood community will be working together to redistribute our home libraries of children's books directly into the hands of students in Los Angeles schools who are in desperate need of books.  Schools and other organizations are holding book drives, and there will be book collection bins scattered throughout the neighborhood.  The BookDrive will culminate in a celebratory community event on May 20th where neighbors and families will help sort and box the book donations.

Why?

Children need books to learn to read but students throughout Los Angeles are growing up without the necessary books to inspire and educate them.  The Los Angeles Unified School District does not have a budget for the purchase of books for our children's classrooms.  BookEnds provides an easy and economical solution.

What is BookEnds?

BookEnds is an entrepreneurial non-profit organization that recycles children's books through student-run book drives, donating those books to schools and organizations in need.  BookEnds was founded by an 8 year-old boy who independently led his school class in a book drive to build a much-needed library at a transitional home for abused children.  BookEnds now runs over 60 drives per year, distributing nearly 200,ooo books to schools and organizations throughout the Los Angeles area.  Powered by our students, every $100 donated to BookEnds results in $500 of books for underserved Los Angeles children.

BookEnds is proud to be partnering with City Year as the beneficiary of the Brentwood BookDrive.  City Year is a nonprofit organization that unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service to keep students in school on track to graduation.  City Year corp members will take our books directly into the classrooms of educationally underserved students throughout Los Angeles.
